Heart of Gold

I picked the book Heart of Gold by Robin Lee Hatcher because I thought a book about the civil war time period.  However, the civil war is not mentioned as much as gold mining.  The book has a slow start, but the romance ends up being incredible.  Gold mining is not very fascinating, but the story itself helped save the book.

The Harvest of Grace

As I have said before, I have become quite fond of Amish stories and have read them frequently lately.  This is no exception.  The Harvest of Grace by Cindy Woodsmall was touching and romantic.  It was beautifully written and I could not put it down.  I loved learning more about the Amish and their lifestyle.  I totally recommend this book!

Old Love, New Life

I just finished reading Old Love, New Life by Ruth Hayes.  I thought it was a very sweet and romantic story.  I'm glad I read it and thought that the ending was superb.  Predictable, but loving and a happy, upbeat story.

The Christmas Singing

I recently finished reading the book The Christmas singing.  I really enjoyed it.  It was about an Amish girl and boy that had to overcome their fears of their love for each other.  They tried to protect each other, which ended up separating them rather than bringing them together.  I always love a book with a happy ending, and finding out more about the Amish fascinates me.  All in all I really enjoyed this book.  This can be seen also in the way that it only took me a day to start and finish it.  I literally could not put it down!  Great read! I recommend it to others who love romance stories.

Ascent from Darkness

I recently read Ascent from Darkness by Michael Leehan.  I thought it was very inspirational and dark.  It told the story of a man that sold his soul to Satan and then had to come back from it, finding God in the process.  I was born a Christian, so to read about a man that turned his back on all of the things I believed in was really hard.  However, when I finished reading, and got to the parts about finding God, I felt all of the things I feel every time I think about my religion.  I felt that I should work harder to be a better Christian just like Michael became.

Culture Shift

I read the book Culture Shift by Dr. R. Albert Mohler Jr.  I thought it was very provocative and thought provoking.  The ideas that Dr. Mohler had on all of these religious issues made me rethink some of my own ideas and beliefs.  Mass media and technology are truly changing the culture and lifestyle of today's Americans.  Television, the radio, and celebrities are more reported than ever before and are involved in almost solely immoral acts.  I liked his comments on abortion and how everything in our culture is changing.

Ninth Summer

I recently finished Ninth Summer by Marjorie Anderson that I received from Dorrance Publishing.  I thought it was a strange book.  I liked that it was told from the point of view of a child.  However, I thought that the plot was a little odd.  I think it is slightly realistic as a lot of children are afraid of the dark.  However, the monster made the book more frightening than I was hoping for.  I am not a fan of scary books.  I did like how Clairie overcame the monster in the end with the help of her family.  It was inspirational and very interesting.
